classification
Legend
A traditional story sometimes popularly regarded as historical but unauthenticated, often featuring real or supposedly real people and places.
Legends occupy a middle ground between myth and folktale. Unlike myths (which deal with gods and creation), legends are set in the historical or recent past and feature human (or partly human) characters. They are presented as believed to have actually happened, even if they contain supernatural elements. Examples include the legends of King Arthur, Robin Hood, El Dorado, and La Llorona. Urban legends are a modern form of legend, circulating as true stories in contemporary society. Legends often serve to explain local landmarks, historical events, or moral values.
