Trickster
A character (often an animal or spirit) who exhibits a great degree of intellect or secret knowledge and uses it to play tricks or otherwise disobey normal rules and conventional behavior.
The Trickster is one of the most universal archetypes in world folklore. Found in nearly every culture, the trickster uses wit, cunning, and deception to outsmart more powerful opponents. Tricksters often blur moral boundaries — they can be heroes, villains, or both simultaneously. Famous tricksters include Anansi the Spider (West Africa/Caribbean), Coyote (Native American), Loki (Norse), Hermes (Greek), and the Kitsune (Japan). In many traditions, the trickster also serves as a culture hero who brings important gifts to humanity, such as fire or knowledge, through their cleverness.
