The Ant and the Grasshopper
One bright summer day, a Grasshopper was hopping about in a field, chirping and singing to his heart's content. He saw an Ant carrying a heavy kernel of corn toward her nest. 'Why not come and chat with me instead of toiling away?' asked the Grasshopper. 'I am preparing for winter,' said the Ant, 'and you should do the same.'
The Grasshopper laughed and continued singing. When winter came, the Grasshopper found himself starving and cold. He went to the Ant and begged for food. The Ant asked what he had done all summer. 'I sang,' he said. 'Very well,' replied the Ant, 'now dance.'

Community Discussion
I love how this variant emphasizes the role of the magical helper. It's so different from the version I grew up with!
The ATU 510A classification really helps in seeing the structural similarities with Ye Xian. Fascinating stuff.
