Two Travelers were walking through a forest together when a Bear suddenly appeared on the path ahead. One of the Travelers, thinking only of his own safety, scrambled up a tree and hid among the branches without a word to his companion.

The other Traveler, seeing no way to escape, threw himself flat on the ground and held his breath, for he had heard that Bears will not touch a dead body. The Bear came up to him and sniffed at his head and ears, but the man lay perfectly still, holding his breath. At last, the Bear shuffled away, thinking the man was dead.
